Hunter Thompson's Suicide Note
以Rolling Stones為封面的新一期Rolling Stone雜誌，刊登了Gonzo作家Hunter Thompson寫給妻子的自殺信條。
今年二月，六十七歲的Hunter Thompson留給妻子Anita這封Suicide Note；四天後，他於科羅拉多州的家中廚房裡舉槍自盡。他的骨灰才於上個月由煙火噴灑至高空中，襯著Bob Dylan的名曲Mr. Tambourine Man。這場葬禮的費用由Thompson的摯友Johnny Depp（曾於電影Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas裡飾演Hunter Thompson本人）支付，觀禮的友人包括影星Sean Penn、Bill Murray，去年競選總統失敗的參議員John Kerry等。
這封Suicide Note名為Football Season Is Over，內容如下:
No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun -- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax -- This won't hurt.
短短幾個字道盡了數不清的無奈與挫敗，灰色與迷濛。即使於天氣再好的秋日午後讀來，心仍很難不揪緊一下。於此同時，Washington Post刊登了一篇名為Last Words的文章，指出Thompson的自殺動機或許不如外界猜測的如此複雜。
美式足球一直以來就是Thompson最熱愛的活動之一，每年一月舉辦的超級盃可以說是他的生活重心。相對來說，淒冷的二月突然變得堅忍難熬，不再具有意義。尤其對一名已將近三十年沒寫出好作品的作家，他得忍受自己老化的肢體與重度嗜酒症。於是他選擇於球季結束後，也終止了自己的生命。
諷刺的是，這篇Suicide Note登出的同時，新一個球季才正要開始。
